Sales Tax Setup
To configure your sales tax rates, click the Sales Tax button on the Settings screen.
The software supports up to three different categories of sales tax:
- State Sales Tax
- Local Sales Tax
- Other Sales Tax
You can configure any combination of these tax categories based on the tax requirements applicable to your business.
For each tax category, enter the applicable tax rate as a percentage.
The valid range for each individual tax rate is between
0 and 100. The combined total of all three
tax rates must not exceed 100%.
Important: Any tax category with a rate greater than zero will be included in the total sales tax calculation applied to taxable items entered into an order. The software automatically adds the configured rates together to determine the total sales tax percentage.
For example, suppose your tax rates are configured as follows:
- State Sales Tax: 8.5%
- Local Sales Tax: 2.5%
- Other Sales Tax: 0.5%
The combined sales tax rate applied to taxable items will be 11.5%.
When entering tax rates, enter the percentage value directly into
the corresponding field. For example, if the state sales tax rate
is 8.5%, enter 8.5 in the
State Sales Tax field, not 0.085.
Once you have entered and verified all applicable tax rates, click the Save button to save your changes.
Warning: Changing your sales tax rates will not affect transactions that have already been recorded in the database. Any sales entered before the change will retain their originally calculated tax amounts. Updated tax rates will only apply to new sales transactions created after the changes have been saved.
